Vision Statement
A new way to think about energy. Sounds simple on the surface but if there's one
thing we know from experience (and we have plenty) it's that there is a lot more to
energy than the flick of a switch. Gone are the days of taking energy for granted.
Today more than ever, the world needs people to embrace a new way. For us, it
means that:

Energy is the environment. It's understanding that we aren't separate from nature
and that nature is not something that we've conquered. New energy is small,
decentralized and sustainable. It's on nature's terms, not ours.

Energy is commitment. We're committed to our investors and to profitability but this can never be separated from our commitment to the environment - ever.

Energy is Innovation. If we can't find a way to do it better, we will fail.

Energy is people. The best people. Empowered people. People who not only have
brilliant ideas but care enough to share them and stand by them.

Energy is Community. Big changes don't happen with the support of individuals. We
know that communities make the difference. That's why we do everything we can to
make sure that we support the communities where we do business as much as they
support us.

Responsible Business

BREC is a member of the United Nations Global Compact. The Global Compact is a framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of  human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption . It is the world's largest, global corporate citizenship initiative.

Business, trade and investment are essential pillars for prosperity and peace. But in many areas, business is too often linked with serious dilemmas - for example, exploitative practices, corruption, income equality, and barriers that discourage innovation and entrepreneurship. Responsible business practices can in many ways build trust and social capital, contributing to broad-based development and sustainable markets.

The Global Compact is a purely voluntary initiative with two objectives:
1. Mainstream the ten principles in business activities around the world
2. Catalyse actions in support of broader UN goals, such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

BREC supports Virgin Unite

BREC is proud to support the Heaven's Angels and the Bhubezi Medical Clinic, by providing HIV/Tuberculosis and general medical care to South Africa's most remote communities. Virgin Unite is the entrepreneurial foundation of the Virgin Group, started by Sir Richard Branson. We work with great partners all over the world to develop new approaches to social and environmental issues. We believe that the only way we are going to drive the scale of change that needs to happen in the world, is if we revolutionise the way that the business and social sectors work together.
